Welcome to CHUS

CHUS Mission Statement

The Chinese Historians in the United States (CHUS) was founded in 1987 by a group of Chinese students and visiting scholars who had come to the U.S. to study history. An affiliated society of the American Historical Association (AHA), CHUS has grown into an academic organization consisting of more than 120 historians from the academia in the U.S., China, and other countries. It publishes its own flagship journal, the Chinese Historical Review. CHUS values respect, equality, and dignity for all. With a mission to promote scholarly exchange among its members and with colleagues around the globe and to contribute to the studies of and education in Chinese and world history, CHUS welcomes anyone with a similar interest and pursuit to join our community for professional support, intellectual inspiration, and camaraderie.
